Importance Of Profile Building

November 9, 2021

Did you know that in the past 6 years there has been a 600% rise in students securing 90%-95% in their 10th grade? So clearly there is a rise in competition and plenty of applications in the top universities. To stand out in the crowd, academics is not something you can completely rely on. Other areas of focus, other qualities can help you to stand out, like working on building a strong profile.

What exactly is profile building?

Profile building is a process of developing skills that can be showcased on your resume. The aim of developing the profile is to create a portfolio that can paint and give a picture of your interests. To build a strong profile, a clear display of skills, extracurricular activities, hobbies, achievements, areas of expertise, skills is advisable to showcase your commitment and education goals.

Time is key

Remember, as a child how do our parents and teachers advise us to prepare for our exams much early? Following the same footsteps, we at TCC always advise students to start as early as possible. Building a profile is a very important requirement of your application, and hence starting as early as possible gives you enough time to work on your profile and sharpen your skills. A missed opportunity is like giving an entire year and looking at how fast-paced the world is, it can become a huge setback.

How can you build a strong profile?

Anyone can build a strong profile. How? There are some ways for that.

  1. Research - You know you, you know the areas that might interest you, so good research can help you understand the fields in which you could explore and excel.
  2. Finding out your USP - We all have something that differs us from others. Finding that USP, working on that, and sharpening that can build an excellent profile.
  3. Extracurricular activities - “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” So with academics, try to be engaged in more and more extracurricular activities.
  4. Community Work- Many universities prefer applicants who are selflessly working and helping others. Joining an NGO is not always needed, volunteering is enough, that showcases your interests.
  5. Resume Building -  The admission committee goes through thousands of applications a day, so a strong and appealing resume is a gateway towards your dream university. The resume should provide relevant and more information than what is included in your application. The resume should serve as the backbone of your application and provide you with another opportunity to let universities evaluate your candidature in a better manner.
  6. Engaging LOR’s and SOP’s - SOP is an excellent opportunity to showcase your unique attributes and your skills. The purpose of SOP is to convince the adcom about your interests in that specific field and area and why you chose that specific program of that specific university. You know your USP, so someone who can explain yourself better can be the owner of your LOR. LOR is based on your academic records, your work experience, achievements, communication skills, integrity, passion, commitment, and many other attributes that you will display.

Hope these tips help you to work on your profile. We at TCC help students with complete profile building, so come to us and we will work together to build a profile that will leave a lasting impact.
